Rendezvous and capture of a space debris has never been done before.
CleanSpace One (CSO) is EPFL’s ambitious response to the problem of orbital debris. CSO will autonomously intercept, capture and de-orbit a targeted object, EPFL’s own “SwissCube”, a 1 kg satellite launched in 2009. The objectives of this project are to:
- Increase the awareness and responsibility in regard to orbital debris problem in the world, and educate aerospace students (the upcoming generation).
- Develop and test the technologies required for a rendezvous with an uncooperative object in space.
- De-orbit SwissCube.
